Highlights from This Episode:
As a coach, part of your job is to understand the intent of the workout and lead your athletes toward that intent. Sometimes that means doing it Rx, sometimes it means scaling. Scaling shouldn’t be considered “bad,” but rather “tailored” to the athlete so they can achieve the point of the workout.
As a leader, part of your job is to understand the capacity of your teammates to set them up for success. Sometimes that is challenging them towards a performer they have never done, and others involved coaching them through the motions so failure turns into learning points. Both approaches are extremely important in developing experience and confidence in future performance
Both of these approaches require you to master intent and take the time to know your teammates strengths, weaknesses, and experiences so you can help them perform optimally. Some teammates may be over confident and others not so much. Failure can be a powerful teaching tool, but be mindful to not create a situation that is unrecoverable. Take the time to understand your teammates and apply the right Rx or Scaled inspiration to lead them towards success.
